This Privacy Policy explains how Noise Diary (the “App”) handles microphone input, measurement records, purchase information, and information you choose to share.

Privacy at a glance: Noise Diary analyzes microphone input on your device to calculate approximate sound-level readings. The App does not create an audio recording, upload audio, require an account, or include advertising or third-party analytics. Measurement records remain on your device unless you choose to export or share them.

1. Information the App Handles

1.1 Microphone Input

Noise Diary requests microphone permission so it can calculate an approximate environmental sound level. When measurement is active, audio samples are processed temporarily in memory by Apple audio frameworks and the App’s on-device calculation code.

• No raw microphone buffer is written to an audio file.
• No audio is uploaded to the developer or a third-party server.
• The microphone is not used before you grant permission.
• When no noise event is active, measurement stops if the App enters the background.
• An event you explicitly start may continue while the screen is locked or another app is open. It ends when you stop it or when iOS interrupts or terminates the session.

You can change microphone permission at any time in iOS Settings. Without microphone permission, live measurement and noise-event recording are unavailable.

1.2 Measurement Records

When you save a noise event, the App stores the following information locally on your device:

• event start and end time and calculated duration;
• approximate Leq, maximum, and minimum dB(A) values;
• the calibration offset applied to the event;
• a tag and note you choose to enter.

These records do not contain an audio recording. The developer cannot view or retrieve your locally stored records.

1.3 Calibration and App Settings

Your calibration offset and related preferences are stored locally so the App can apply them to future measurements. Calibration is device- and input-specific and can be reset in the App.

1.4 Purchases

The optional Lifetime Pro purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. The developer does not receive your credit card number or bank account details. The App checks purchase entitlement information supplied by Apple only to unlock paid features and restore eligible purchases. Apple handles its information under the Apple Privacy Policy.

1.5 Support Communications

If you contact support by email, the developer may receive your email address, message, and any information you voluntarily include. This information is used only to respond to your request and provide support. You do not need to attach measurement records or other personal information.

2. How Information Is Used

Information handled within the App is used only to provide the following functions:

• displaying an approximate live dB(A) reading;
• calculating and saving Leq, maximum, and minimum values for an event you start;
• showing tags, notes, calibration information, and measurement history;
• creating CSV or PDF files when you request an export;
• providing and restoring purchased features;
• recovering a recent in-progress event checkpoint after an interruption.

3. No Advertising, Tracking, or Developer Analytics

Noise Diary does not include third-party advertising SDKs, tracking SDKs, or developer-operated analytics. The developer does not sell measurement information or use microphone input, measurement records, tags, or notes for advertising or profiling.

4. Sharing and External Services

The App does not automatically transmit your audio or measurement history. If you choose to export or share an event, a CSV file, a PDF report, or an App Store link, the selected content is passed to the destination you choose through the iOS share sheet. After sharing, the destination service’s privacy policy and retention practices apply.

The App may open Apple services for purchases, purchase restoration, App Store ratings, or external legal pages. Those services are operated under Apple’s applicable terms and privacy practices.

5. Storage and Retention

• Measurement records, tags, notes, calibration settings, and active-event checkpoints are stored in the App’s local data area.
• Saved records remain until you delete an individual event, delete all history, or remove the App.
• CSV and PDF files are created in temporary local storage when you request an export. Copies you save or share remain under the control of the destination you selected.
• If device or iCloud backup is enabled, iOS may include App data in a backup managed by Apple. The developer cannot access that backup.
• Deleting the App removes data stored in the App’s local container, subject to any device backup or exported copy you control.

6. Your Choices and Controls

You can:

• deny or revoke microphone permission in iOS Settings;
• start and stop each noise event yourself;
• edit tags and notes before saving an event;
• delete individual events or all measurement history in the App;
• reset the local calibration offset;
• delete exported copies from the location or service where you saved them;
• delete the App to remove its locally stored data.

Because the developer does not operate an account or server database for Noise Diary, there is no developer-held measurement-history account to access, download, or delete.

7. Children’s Privacy

Noise Diary is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children. The developer does not knowingly collect children’s personal information through the App.

8. Security

Keeping audio processing and measurement storage on the device reduces opportunities for that information to be transmitted externally. However, no device, operating system, backup, or electronic storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Use an up-to-date operating system, a device passcode, and appropriate backup controls.

9. International Users

The App is offered in multiple countries and regions. Audio analysis and saved measurement records remain on your device. Information you send through Apple services, email, backups, or a sharing destination may be processed in other countries under the terms of the service you choose.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when the App’s features, technology, or legal obligations change. Material changes will be identified on this page or in the App where appropriate. The “Last updated” date above shows when this Policy was most recently revised.
